Hi Esperanza,
My family name (from Spain) is also Butron. My ancestor, Manuel Butron, was a Catalonian soldier who came to California with Juniperro Serra to establish the missions up the California coast. Through marriage with other Spaniards, my family name became, Amezquita, then, Amesquita, then finally, as they wanted to "Americanize" it about a hundred years ago, ending up being Mesquit. In Mexico, there are any number of variations of this name.
Manuel Butron was the first registered cattle rancher in California. The first soldier to marry a converted Indian woman, which was also the first marriage ceremony performed at Rancho Del Carmello. (Now, Carmel.) He also planted a pear orchard somewhere near the mission.
Interesting stuff!
My lifelong dream was to visit Spain, but I won't make it now - too old and too broke.
Take care.
